Why Mission Inspects a Reroof Before It Is Finished

A finished shingle surface hides the deck and protection layers beneath it. Mission’s reroof handout calls for a mid-phase inspection as well as a final inspection because those stages reveal different work.

The requirement is part of planning a reroof in Mission, Kansas. If your roof is nearing replacement, Mission Roofers can start with a free inspection of its condition. Explore roof replacement

The open stage exposes the base

Tear-off makes deck sheets, edges and parts of the roof assembly accessible. Damaged decking can be corrected before underlayment and shingles cover it. A new covering alone cannot make deteriorated wood into a sound fastening base.

Mission’s current 2024-code reroof handout calls for mid-phase inspection when old roofing is removed and new roofing has begun. Organizing work around that stage keeps inspection from becoming an afterthought once the concealed work is no longer visible.

Water protection works beneath the shingles

Underlayment, ice-barrier protection, drip edge and flashing support the broad covering. The way layers overlap controls where water goes. Walls, chimneys and valleys need their own details, which must connect to the new covering.

The city’s current handout includes an ice-barrier extent and restrictions on recover over existing roofing. Those local requirements are a reason to use Mission’s actual published guidance rather than a generic metro description or an old search result.

The final stage addresses completion

Final inspection follows the mid-phase stage and addresses the finished roof. Municipal inspection is separate from product warranty terms and the contractor’s workmanship obligations. It does not create an all-purpose guarantee for every future roof condition.

Plan the roof before removal begins

Roof access, delivery and debris routes, weather protection and inspection stages all affect the sequence. Material choices fit into that work, rather than replacing the need to plan the layers beneath the visible surface.
